Details of the modified vehicle, codenamed Stagecoach, remain classified. Its successor entered service with President Barack Obama on January 20, 2009.
According to General Motors, the manufacturer, the "2009 Cadillac Presidential Limousine" is the first not to carry a specific model name. DTS is a combination of a Cadillac limousine body on the chassis/platform of a GMC Topkick commercial truck.
An early version of the DTS was initially shown at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show on February 9.
